Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign®?

The Invisalign system uses a series of clear aligner trays to straighten your teeth. The trays resemble those used for some teeth whitening procedures, but each set is custom-shaped and molded to fit your mouth and slip over your teeth.

Crafted from a patented thermoplastic material called SmartTrack®, Invisalign clear aligner trays are thin, flexible, and comfortable, but strong enough to move your teeth into the desired position over time. The trays are FDA-approved and contain no gluten, latex, BPA, or BPS.

How does Invisalign straighten teeth?

At the beginning of the straightening process, your PCD provider uses advanced digital technology to create a template of your teeth and a treatment plan. This plan provides a map of how your teeth are expected to shift in response to wearing the Invisalign trays.

Your clear aligners are then custom-designed to apply the correct amount of pressure to specific teeth at the right time in the process. You wear each set of trays until the targeted teeth have moved into a position required for the next set. As the treatment progresses, your teeth shift into proper alignment, and you will begin to see a straight smile.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

The Invisalign system offers many benefits compared to other tray systems and traditional braces. The SoftTrack material used for the aligner trays is more comfortable and provides a better fit than other tray systems. Each set is also carefully trimmed to fit your gum line, which improves comfort as well as appearance.

While you must wear your aligner trays for a specific number of hours each day, unlike traditional braces, you can remove them to brush, floss, eat, and drink. This freedom eliminates the need to restrict your diet in the way you must with wire braces.

Invisalign also does not entail the bulky wires or brackets of traditional braces. These can sometimes irritate the sensitive tissue lining your inner lips and cheeks.

Invisalign trays are also nearly invisible once they’re in place. This fact may be the most attractive benefit of the Invisalign system, which an estimated seven million individuals across the world have used to improve their smiles.
